Day 1
"Thank you, [NAME]. You chose well. Violence isn't the only answer. You see, there are good humans, ones that go after the poachers. They patrol over there across the river and I'm sure they'd help us with the poachers, but the problem is I have no idea how to get their attention, or when." She looks across the river on the opposite side of the territory, tapping her tail thoughtfully.
"Precisely! Humans usually run away from us though, so we have to be careful. We have to somehow show them that we won't hurt them. See what you can do."
You have not fulfilled your task yet.

"That explains it! I bet they live farther up the river near our borders. You wouldn't find so many of them otherwise. I'll draw up a map and show you where I mean. In the meantime, you go get some rest and see if you can brainstorm any good ideas on how to get their attention. I'll think on it, too."
Day 2
"I think I've got an idea. Come on, let me show you."
You follow her to a cozy nest. It's being prepared for her cubs and has been built with the softest feathers you've ever felt under your paws.
Sitting in the middle of the nest like some strange bird is a poacher drone. Shinga pushes it toward you with an eager glint in her eye.
She begins to scratch a path in the dirt, showing you the way to where she thinks the camp is.
"Take the drone to the camp and drop it nearby when someone is looking. Then retreat as far as you can, until they're tiny little dots. Hopefully they'll watch you with their eagle eye glasses and follow you."
"No clue. Guess we have to find out!" She stretches out in her nest and looks at you expectantly. Time to go, lion.
Taking the drone, you trek along the river just past the borders of the pride's territory and come to a road. It's busy with their rattling machines, and it makes the hair stand up along your back. How can they stand this terrible noise? Gritting your teeth, you follow the road as Shinga showed you and keep to the bushes as much as you can.
Peering out, you see a group of what you assume are rangers chattering at each other as they travel along the road. They have some sort of tree trunk on their backs, but seem harmless otherwise.
Taking a deep breath, you reveal yourself and the drone. The rangers freeze in place and slowly back off with wide eyes. Tread carefully, lion.

You have their full attention now.
There's no way to tell exactly what they think, but their body language is hesitant and they frown as they surround the drone and talk into devices. They keep looking at you intently from time to time, and you wait to make your move.
Eventually one of the rangers moves toward you, and now is your chance! You leap from the tree and begin to move toward the poacher camp, looking back to see if they're following. They stay where they are and take pictures instead. Drat!
"This one seems braver and more interested than the rest. I bet if we brought her more stuff, she'd listen to us. Go and find some discarded poacher guns, and I'll look for some old traps. It will just take me a minute. These little rascals are taking it out of me today." She smiles at her belly and shifts to a more comfortable position.

Day 3
Noises at the camp draw your attention, and you see people come out. They point at you and chatter among themselves. While they don't come near, they don't back away, either.
You drop the gun and retreat, watching as the ranger picks it up and inspects it. They take more pictures of you before you disappear into the bushes.
Come back next sunrise.

You drop the gun and retreat, watching as the ranger picks it up and inspects it. They take more pictures of you before you disappear into the bushes.
She moves to come near, but shouts from the other rangers stop her. "Anesu" is yelled several times, and she seems to react to it. Her name, perhaps?
Hoping to reassure them, you roll on your back, showing your belly. They don't approach, instead opting to take more pictures.
After a while, you rise to your paws and make the trek back home.

Hoping to reassure them, you roll on your back, showing your belly. They don't approach, instead opting to take more pictures.
After a while, you rise to your paws and make the trek back home.
The lady crouches and taps the ground, and you oblige by laying down and dropping the gifts. Nervous chattering from the other rangers carries to you, and you keep your eyes locked on Anesu.
She pulls off her hat and drops it nearby. Her scent is all over it, and you take it as a good sign. It's a start! But how long will it take? Maybe the ancient spirit Kutsiva can help...
"Is that hers?" she gasps, and when you nod, she sniffs it all over. When you explain how agonizingly slow it's been to befriend the rangers, Shinga looks at the hat uncertainly.
"There is one thing we could try... but I'm not so sure it's a good idea. I suppose it's up to Kutsiva if he wants to help us, though. Come, let's call for a gathering and see what happens."
"I'm not making any promises, but we will do what we can. First we need to rebuild the mound. Once we do, then we can proceed."
"We need different items for different blessings. Can you help and look for these?"

Once you have completed the task, return to Shinga, and click the "It's ready!" button.
"Very good. Come, join the ritual. You too, Shinga," she purrs, and walks beside her pride mate.
Each voice is unique. As you watch, you expect their ancestors to appear, but this time there are no spirits. You can feel something shift in the air, however; you are not alone.
"Kutsiva! Please bless our warrior and allow them to forge a bond with this good human so that we may move forward on our path." Mutsivi's voice rises above the rest, and you watch as she tosses the hat on the ground in front of the mound.
"Kutsiva has blessed the hat, [NAME]. I don't know what workings it will make, but it should make your task much easier. Bring the hat to the rangers."
Carefully picking up the hat in your teeth, you trek the familiar path to the rangers' camp. The hat seems to pulse with energy, and it is no longer just an ordinary piece of human clothing.
You pause several paces away with the hat in your mouth. Anesu smiles and taps the ground, as if asking you to return the hat. You let it drop from your jaws and step back several more paces, watching intently as Anesu picks up the hat.
You feel as though you can understand each other... but any attempts at actually communicating make your head hurt. Human speech is too much for you.
When she realizes you are struggling to understand, she puts up a hand in a stopping motion. Now that you understand, and you pause in your retreat.
She asks you something, but once again you are not able to comprehend a word. Humans make noises, right? Maybe a simple noise will do and she will somehow understand what you mean.
You sit on your haunches and watch curiously. After a time, Anesu breaks off and walks toward you. With hesitation she reaches out her hand, and with a purr you meet her halfway, pressing your head against her hand. Her presence is comforting, and neither one of you feel any fear. Perhaps this was the purpose of Kutsiva's blessing.
Anesu makes a noise and gestures toward the jeeps. The moment is broken. It's time to go.
The poacher camp can be seen in the distance, and on Anesu's command, the jeeps stop and the rangers gather around. You don't need the power to understand them this time, as your goal is the same: it's time to take down the poachers once and for all.
The first group moves ahead to create a distraction while Anesu and the other group move toward the buildings. The tension is so thick that you could slice it with a claw.
Chaos erupts and shouts fill the air as gunfire rings out. You watch as a few of the poachers are shot down and quickly throw up their hands in surrender. Others see you and yell in fear, aiming their guns your way and taking shots at you.
You roar and charge toward them, causing them to drop their guns and scurry away in fear. Take that, parasites!
How ironic, eh? They are being treated the same way they treated the animals they poached. The rangers talk into communication devices, seemingly calling for backup.
Wailing fills the air and you turn with a jerk to see the rangers crowding around something lying deathly still on the ground. It's one of the rangers!
A piercing roar claws its way out of your chest as you try and get rid of the weight that has settled there. That poor ranger! They died to help protect the animals of this world.
You bow your head, sending up a silent prayer to Kutsiva. In your prayer, you thank him for his help, and ask him to watch over the ranger.
You feel the urge to step back, but when the spirit's hand touches your head, you feel warm, calm, and full of love. The ranger is grateful even in death, and their spirit feels at peace. They will go from this world feeling satisfied at having done their duty.
The rangers help one another carry the body of their fallen comrade to the jeeps, while others walk around the camp taking pictures, writing notes, and talking into their communication devices.
Not unlike lions would do, they are inspecting and taking note of everything.
As you approach, she turns with a smile, and she looks well and uninjured. She murmurs something and reaches out to hug you fiercely around your neck. The sentiment is clear: she's thanking you.

Sitting among them, you regale them with the triumphant tale of how you helped the rangers take down the poachers.
Shouts and cheers fill the air, and the lionesses crowd around you to hug you, rub against you, and purr in happiness.
Shinga pads up, eyes watery as if she's been crying.
"Kutsiva will be pleased. You will not be forgotten by us, nor by him; I suspect he will watch over you and your pride from this moment on, in thanks for what you've done. Who knows, some of your cubs may be born with some of his traits."
She winks at you conspiratorially.
"Travel safe going home, [NAME]. Give my best to your pride and your little ones. Perhaps we will see you again sooner rather than later. I expect you to meet the cubs you saved, after all!"
She grins widely and turns to join her pride, swaying gently as she walks.
