As any player can see by perusing the Lioden Wardrobe, Lioden is absolutely chock-full of mutations. Here, we're focusing on the only available (at this time, anyway!) cryptid mutation - Mngwa!

Above, we have provided mockups of the Mngwa mutation in all age stages and sexes. Don't get these fluffy cheeks fool you - they have murder mittens, just like normal lions!

The cryptids system, alongside the first mutation of this type (Mngwa), was added in November 2025 during the Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale, as the newest MOD (Mutie on Demand) applicator. Their introduction News Post can be found here! According to this News, the Mngwa is a speculative cryptid species, originally sighted in Tanzania.

The Mngwa mutation can be applied via the "Mutie On Demand: Mngwa" applicator that could have been obtained by purchasing Golden Beetles through the Oasis during the Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale in 2025. This applicator will still be available as a part of the "Old MOD pool" in the upcoming years during future BF sales! Right now, you can purchase this applicator from other players via Branch Sales or the Trading Center.

Mutie On Demand: Mngwa
With this item, you can apply the Mngwa mutation to your chosen lion, so long as it does not already have a mutation and isn't posed.

Note that the Mutie On Demand: Mngwa applicator can only be applied to non-mutated, non-posed female or male lions. If you want to use this applicator on a lion that is posed, you must first remove that pose via the Pose Remover item that can be bought from the Monkey Business for 200 SB.

The Mngwa mutation is heritable, and can be passed down to cubs from both male and female parents. What's more, this mutation has its special boosts and debuffs that translate to passing down the mutation!

Genetics

This mutation can be a bit tricky to understand the breeding conditions of at first, so read carefully!

Mngwa x Non-Mngwa

In case you are breeding a Mngwa lion with a non-Mngwa lion (Mngwa X Non-Mngwa), the following applies:

  • The lioness (whether she is the Mngwa parent or not) needs to have 100% fertility at the time of breeding in order for the mutation to be able to pass. The base chance of breeding a Mngwa in these conditions is 3%;
  • For each parent that has a Golden colour group base, this chance increases by +1% for each parent with that base group;
  • If the cub inherits a Golden colour group base, this boosts it by another 2%.

The base rate of passing the mutation onto cubs (and assuming the lioness has 100% fertility during breeding) in these conditions is 3%. This can be boosted up to a total of 7% chance of obtaining Mngwa cubs from such breedings if both parents have a Golden colour group base (1% for each parent), and when the cub itself inherits the same base colour group (additional 2% chance).

Additionally, breeding one Mngwa parent with a lion that has one of the following mutations will automatically lower the chance of getting a Mngwa cub from this breeding to 1%, and the aforementioned boosts will no longer apply to this breeding. The mutations that debuff your chance of getting a Mngwa cub are as follows: Primal (any variant), Hybrids or Dwarfism.

Mngwa x Mngwa

Should you breed two Mngwa parents (Mngwa X Mngwa), the chances are even higher! The breakdown is as follows:

  • The lioness can have any fertility level and the mutation will still be able to pass. The base chance of breeding a Mngwa is 6%;
  • For each parent that has a Golden colour group base, this increases by +1% each;
  • If the cub inherits a Golden colour group base, this boosts it by another 2%.

The base rate of passing the mutation onto cubs in these conditions is 6%. This can be boosted up to a total of 10% chance of obtaining Mngwa cubs from such breedings if both parents have a Golden colour group base (1% for each parent), and when the cub itself inherits the same base colour group (additional 2% chance).

Breeding Items

The two useful items that may come in handy when breeding a Mngwa with a Non-Mngwa lion are Chasteberry and Divine Nectar. Both items will raise the lioness's fertility, which may be used to boost her fertility all the way to 100%, which will make unlock the potential to breed a Mngwa cub in case the lioness's natural fertility is below 100% and only one of the parents has the Mngwa mutation.

Chasteberry will boost your lioness's fertility by 10%, while Divine Nectar will boost her fertility all the way to 100%! Remember that lionesses above the age of 8 will lose 5% fertility with each passing year, meaning that if you apply the fertility boosts before her next year hits, at the time of breeding, she may no longer be 100%, so take a note of that!

Chasteberry
This item boosts fertility in females temporarily (until successful breeding).
Divine Nectar
Boosts fertility to 100% for one breeding.

Chasteberry can be purchased from the Fertility Snake for 100 SB each, while Divine Nectar can be purchased from the Oasis for 1 GB each.

Important Note: Lion Scrotum cannot be used on Mngwa lions.

FAQ

Q: Can I remove the mutation from my Mngwa?
A: Yes. If a Mngwa is born and you do not wish for it to be a Mngwa, you can use a Safou Fruit to remove the mutation. They can be bought for 1000 SB from Monkey Business.

Q: Can I sex change a Mngwa?
A: Yes, but only if your Mngwa is a cub or adolescent. Adult mutated lions cannot be sex changed.

Q: Can I use a breeding item to boost my chances of getting a Mngwa?
A: No, the only items that can indirectly assist you with obtaining Mngwa cubs from a Mngwa X Non-Mngwa breeding are Chasteberry and Divine Nectar in case your lioness's fertility is not 100% at the time of breeding. These two items raise lioness's fertility, which can be used to boost her fertility up to 100%.

Q: Can I use Cotton Root Bark (CRB) on my Mngwa?
A: Yes, but if you want your Mngwa to pass their mutation, this will not boost your chances of obtaining a Mngwa. Rather, it will boost your overall chance of getting a random mutation from the breeding.

Q: Can I use a Lion Scrotum on Mngwas to have a higher chance of passing the mutation?
A: No, Lion Scrotum cannot be used on Mngwas.

Q: Does my Mngwa female's fertility level affect the chances of her producing a Mngwa cub?
A: Yes, but only if the father is not a Mngwa. When breeding Mngwa X Non-Mngwa lions, then the lioness's fertility must be 100% in order for her mutation to be able to pass.

Q: Where is Mngwa on the official mutation roll order?
A: Jaglion OR Leopon OR Overgrown Fur OR Tigon OR Mngwa ➜ Patches/Piebald ➜ GMO Cow/Lion Meat ➜ Cotton Root Bark ➜ Fertility/Natural Chance ➜ Lion Scrotum ➜ Primal ➜ Dorsal Fur ➜ Tigon Boost* ➜ Mukombero ➜ Dorsal Fur Guarantee*

Q: Which bases belong to the Golden base group?
A: You can read more about this on the Base Genetics page!

Q: While breeding Mngwa father to a hybrid female, can any potential Mngwa cubs overwrite any hybrids that can be born due to the mother's genetics?
A: No, because Mngwa rolls after hybrids in the mutation roll order, so you can safely breed two parents with these mutations together! However, keep in mind that breeding a Mngwa (who still needs to have 100% fertility in order to be able to pass her mutation) to a hybrid, primal or dwarf will significantly lower your chance to obtain Mngwa (a hard 1% chance and no boosts).
