You decide to visit the cliff again. Thankfully you were stepping quietly, because you hear some commotion up ahead. It sounds like some roars and arguing. One of the voices must be Apedemak, but you also think you hear Menhit. You've rarely seen them together before, and now you understand why.

When the view is clear enough, your ears pick up on their voices. Apedemak is insistent - he demands that Menhit marry another male lion of his choice, to keep the bloodline pure and spawn a Divine cub. She seems very angry about this, and screams that she has her own free will. She smacks him as he steps forward.

You hide in the bush, trying to hear what's going on. The lions continue roaring at each other, each shouting down the other, until Menhit has enough and turns to leave. She runs away very fast, tears biting down her cheeks, leaving Apedemak to sit down with an angry expression, mumbling to himself how annoying daughters are.

Apedemak huffs at you. His eyes are almost glowing blue - perhaps his body is charged with the whispers he's collected so carefully. Perhaps, as Tefnut mentions, these are not the good kind of ancestors. Perhaps they're making him more vicious than he usually is.
"Didn't I tell you I have big plans for her? I OWN her, she's my project, and she dares to defy me? Don't you have projects in your pride, [NAME]?"
He looks at you, and you feel all your guts squeeze, maybe from the sheer cold his eyes pierce you with, or another disturbing reason.

You rush at the pair and roar at Apedemak, immediately moving to push yourself between them both. Menhit has a right to choose her own destiny, after all.
Apedemak lets out loud, angry growls. He's pissed.
"Who do you think you are to interfere with my projects, my family?"
He pauses a moment, and his face softens.
"Fine. You are but a simple lion from this simple land, and you do not have the understanding to realise what is happening here. I can forgive you, but only if you pay me respect."
He finishes this with a snarl, which causes Menhit to tremble a little as she hides behind you.
A tribute could be a way to not have him pissed off with you - but at the same time, would it really be right to insist Menhit complied with her father's demands?

You can use Catnip to attract NCL encounters and make the quest go by a bit easier. You do not need to hold onto the lionesses once they have been claimed, and are free to chase, kill, nature reserve, sell, etc. as you please.
