Novel 3 begins on July 10th at 00:00am LDT.
You decide to visit the cliff again. Thankfully you were stepping quietly, because you hear some commotion up ahead. It sounds like some roars and arguing. One of the voices must be Apedemak, but you also think you hear Menhit. You've rarely seen them together before, and now you understand why.

When the view is clear enough, your ears pick up on their conversation. Apedemak is trying to convince Menhit to join his Skyward project, demanding that she breeds with him to spawn a Divine cub. Upset, she smacks him brutally, forcing him to realise she's an adult who has her own say in this family.

You hide in the bush, trying to hear what's going on. The lions roar and argue, until Menhit runs off in frustration, leaving Apedemak to sit down with an angry expression, mumbling to himself how annoying she is.

Apedemak huffs at you. His eyes are almost glowing blue - perhaps his body is charged with the whispers he's collected so carefully. Perhaps, as Tefnut mentions, these are not the good kind of ancestors. Perhaps they're making him more vicious than he usually is.
"Didn't I tell you I have big plans for her? I OWN her, she's my project, and she dares to defy me? Don't you have projects in your pride, [NAME]?"
He looks at you, and you feel all your guts squeeze, maybe from the sheer cold his eyes pierce you with, or another disturbing reason.

You rush at the pair and tackle Apedemak, pushing him onto the ground in Menhit's defence. He's pissed off and growling at you.
"How DARE you interfere with my projects!" He groans, rolling away to get up. After a brief shake, his emotions seem to calm down a little bit. "Fine. You're a simple lion from this simple land, and you may not realize what is happening here. I can forgive you only if you pay me respects."
He snarls, as Menhit hides behind you. A tribute could be a way to not have him pissed off at you, but what's most important is that Menhit is safe for now.

You growl at Apedemak, refusing to pay respects. Not when he won't respect his daughter's choices. He growls back and leaves, not going to be bothered by this petty situation. Menhit sighs and sits down, still behind you, gently leaning on your side. You can feel her trembling.
"Thank you, [NAME]. He... He wants to use me for some weird breeding project. I just want to be happy, though. I want to have friends, to love a mate, and I want to hunt antelopes. I... I don't want to be a cub incubator for my own dad. I want to love him, just as I did years ago when he would teach me about constellations as I played in his mane. But now... it feels like talking to a wall. Like I'm no longer the precious cub he raised. It's like he's somebody else, someone completely different. Please... help my family."
She speaks quietly, not daring to look at you. She's strong inside, but her father's cold treatment pounded her confidence into nothing.

You can use Catnip to attract NCL encounters and make the quest go by a bit easier. You do not need to hold onto the lionesses once they have been claimed, and are free to chase, kill, nature reserve, sell, etc. as you please.
Once you have claimed 10 lionesses, return to the Civil War page to progress with the storyline. A new button will appear.

And if he'd respect that, maybe, just maybe, Apollyon could join me, or I could stay with him here in his lands. Hopefully the stars will protect us."
